Lyn Widmyer, County Commission, Harpers Ferry

I have lived in Jefferson County since 1981 when I married my husband Ron, a third generation farmer. We have two children, Nick (age 22) and Molly (age 20). I have worked for more open government, testified numerous times to the County Commission on planning issues and been involved in schools, serving as a PTO officer for 8 years in a row. My campaign slogan is WORKING TOGETHER because I know how important it is to have elected officials who listen to people's ideas and suggestions. I am a professional planner with 30 years experience at the county level. My masters degree in planning is from the University of Michigan but I am no longer rooting for the football team since they stole Rich Rodriguez from WVU. I have served as an officer of the League of Women Voters, First in Your Family and the Jefferson County Organization of Democratic Women. I write a monthly column for the Herald-Mail about Jefferson County topics.
     My campaign website
www.lynwidmyer.com, has more information about my campaign platform and features different columns that I have written about Jefferson County.

Angie Banks, Assessor

Angela L. “Angie” Banks has filed for the position of Jefferson County Assessor. Former Jefferson County Clerk, John E. Ott, will serve as treasurer of her campaign. Banks has spent the past fourteen years serving as deputy clerk in the Assessor’s office. She has received ongoing training from the West Virginia State Tax Department and has experience with all functions in the local Assessor’s office. “As a lifelong resident of Jefferson County, I fully understand the concern over recent increases in real estate tax because of assessments being based on sales,” said Banks. “However, as the real estate market continues to soften, our assessments will decline over time as they have in several areas for the 2008 tax year.” Banks will make it a priority to further the working relationship with other county offices along with continuing to modernize the assessor’s office to be more accommodating to the public.

Banks, age 43, is a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. She has resided the past 23 years in Shepherdstown. Angie Banks has been married for 25 years to Todd Banks. They have three children, including two daughters who are students at West Virginia University and a son who has served in Afghanistan.  Banks is currently the Secretary of the Jefferson County Democratic Association and can be reached at www.banksforassessor.com.
