John Doyle has represented what is now the 57th House of Delegates District since 1993. He sits on the Finance Committee, the
Political Subdivisions Committee, the Constitutional Revisions Committee and the Legislative Oversight Commission on Education
Accountability. He chairs the Joint Commission on Interstate Cooperation.
John has been in the forefront of many
efforts on behalf of the people of West Virginia, including the reduction of the sales tax on food and the reduction (and eventual
elimination) of the business franchise tax. John was the leader of the successful fight to require civics education for all high school
students as a requrement for graduation.
Delegate Doyle has also worked for laws that particularly benefit Jefferson
County, including the Farmland Protection Act and its funding method. He has fought to strengthen West Virginia's Land Use
laws so that Jefferson County can deal effectively with its ongoing growth. Delegate Doyle spearheaded the effort to get
Shepherd University permission to offer graduate degrees.
Most recently, John led the fight to get our county a fair percentage of table games revenue, first by opposing the original referendum
(which treated Jefferson unfairly) and then by working with Senator Herb Snyder to change the law to our benefit. He is also working
with Senator Snyder to undo some provisions in state law that are unfair to the several hundred horsemen who
run thoroughbreds at the Charles Town Races.
Delegate Doyle writes a regular column each week for the Shepherdstown
Chronicle and holds four town meetings each year in the 57th District, two before the Legislature's regular session begins and
two at its conclusion.
